Micarta Lessons 101

These are the exact same black Micarta scale! The one on the left has been oiled. 

When Micarta is fresh off the mill or sandpaper it's very light in color. Over time using the knife the light Micarta scales will darken up considerably. You can speed this process up by wiping them in mineral oil, baby oil or my favorite beard oil. If you ever want to bring them back to the light color you can scrub them down with hot soapy water or wipe them down with isopropyl alcohol and a rag. Or a combination of both.

 

I sell them in the light color stage (non oiled). They will slowly turn dark over a period of time with use, I don't recommend oiling them.
